The type you need depends on your annual turnover, and getting it wrong means fines up to ₹5 lakh or forced closure. Which FSSAI License Type Do You Need?

As of April 2026, the turnover thresholds were revised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare:

• Basic Registration: Annual turnover below ₹12 lakh. One-time online application, fee ₹100, valid 1-5 years. Covers small home kitchens, tiffin services, and micro-scale food stalls.
• State License: Turnover ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore, operating within a single state. Most restaurants, cafes, QSRs, and cloud kitchens fall here. Fee ₹2,000-₹5,000/year depending on state.
• Central License: Turnover above ₹20 crore, OR operating across multiple states, OR importing food products. Fee ₹7,500/year. Larger chains and importers.

When in doubt, apply for State License — you can always upgrade. Applying for Basic when you need State is the most common mistake and invites scrutiny.

1. Photo ID of the applicant (Aadhaar, PAN, or Passport)
2. Business address proof (rental agreement or electricity bill for the premises)

4. Create an account using your mobile number — OTP verified
